4 Reasons Your Air Conditioner Isn'T Putting Out Cool Air

Posted on

When you turn on your air condition system, you expect it to push out cool air. If that is not happening, your air conditioner needs to be repaired. What type of repair it needs depends on the underlying cause for your lack of cool air. Here are a few things that could be causing your unit to fail to blow out cold air.

Reason #1: Thermostat Issues

Your thermostat acts as the user interface between you and your actual system. Older analog-style thermostats were known for losing calibration over time or just malfunctioning in. If you have an older analogy thermostat, it may be time to upgrade to a newer system.

If you have a newer digital thermostat, make sure no power-related issues are causing a glitch between the information you are inputting and the information that the unit is getting.

Reason #2: Dirty Condensing Coils

The condensing coils are located on the outside portion of your unit. The job of the condenser coils is to take the heat from your home and put it through a fan that cools that air off before sending it back to your home. The coils that it is pushed through have refrigerant in them, which helps to attract the heat and cool the air off.

It is essential for the fins around the condenser to be kept straight and for the coils to be kept clean. When the fins are damaged, or the coils get dirty, the air isn't able to flow as easily over condensing coils, and it isn't able to cool off properly. You may still get a little cool air, but not enough to cool off your home.

Reason #3: Dirty Air Filter

It is essential to keep the various components of your unit clean. When the air filter gets dirty, it isn't able to work properly. A dirty and clogged air filter can reduce airflow throughout the entire unit, causing you to not get the cool air you desire inside of your home.

This is a relatively easy problem to fix, as all you need to do to get things flowing again is just clean the air filter off or replace it with a new one.

Reason #4: Compressor Issue

The compressor is the beating heart of your air conditioning system. When the compressor isn't getting the power it needs from the capacitor, it can't do its job, resulting in you getting warm air in your home instead of the cool air you desire.

If your air conditioner unit is not cooling things off like it should, you will want to get an air conditioning repair technician out right away to figure out what the issue is and repair it so you can stay comfortable in your home.
